Mariah HuQ is a Chattanooga, Tennessee native who discovered her passion for storytelling at an early age, honing her skills at Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She began her career as a video news editor and associate producer at WRCB-TV before hosting “Trendz on 3.” Mariah later transitioned to pharmaceutical and medical device sales in Atlanta while raising her two children: Lauren, a 20-year-old premed student at Spelman College, and Ethan, an 18-year-old freshman in aviation at Hampton University in Virginia, alongside her husband, Dr. Aydin HuQ.
Best known as the creator, co-star, and executive producer of Bravo TV’s Married to Medicine, Mariah made history with the first original franchise developed by an African American woman for the network. Since its 2013 premiere, the show has attracted over 27 million viewers and is now in its 11th season. Mariah is the pulse of pop culture, captivating millions and coining many of today’s most notable phrases like “I got the receipts,” “Yaaasss,” and “throwing shade.”
A true creative, Mariah founded Sleek, an innovative co-working and media studio located in the heart of McDonough Square. This unique space is designed to foster collaboration among creatives, entrepreneurs, and professionals, offering a dynamic environment equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources. Sleek provides a platform where individuals and teams can create, connect, and thrive, making it a hub for inspiration and creativity in the community.
Beyond her media success, Mariah is dedicated to philanthropy, receiving the Ruby Hurley Humanitarian of the Year Award and the Chattanooga Humanitarian Award for her community leadership. In recognition of her contributions, she received a proclamation from the Governor and Mayor declaring November 23rd as Mariah HuQ Day in Chattanooga. She actively supports organizations like the National Medical Fellowships and the Solaiman Foundation.
Mariah HuQ is not just a media mogul; she is a transformative force, blending creativity, community service, and family values as she paves an inspiring path forward.
A Visionary Touch
After spending five years at the station, Mariah decided to move to Atlanta. She met and married Dr. Aydin HuQ, a native of Bangladesh, and the happy couple went on to have two wonderful children, Lauren and Ethan. Inspired by the diversity in her marriage and family, Mariah saw a niche in the market for children of multicultural families. She joined forces with her sister Lake to start Jewel and Jem, a line of bedding that celebrates mixed heritages.
Fast forward to the present, Mariah is a successful entrepreneur with many ventures to her credit and is jazzed up about Sleek Co-Work. Mariah’s goal is to have multiple modern locations in small traditional towns that wouldn’t ordinarily have access to a posh contemporary state-of-the-art facility at an affordable price.
Mariah is a wonderful mother to her children, an equal partner to her loving husband, and an entrepreneur with a successful track record of ventures. She credits her partnership with God and the connection to her creativity for leading such a wonderful and unique life.
